How to measure for insulation

    1.  Draw a map of the exterior of your building. It doesn't need to be to scale.

    2.  Using a tape measure, mark down on your plan the measurements along the external walls.

    3.  Divide your house into blocks as shown by dotted lines below in the example below.

    4.  Multiply two sides to get the square metres for each block and subtract any outdoor areas such as patios using the same method. Then simply add them all together.

EXAMPLE

    1.  Area 1
    12m x 7.1 = 85.2 m²
    then subtract the verandah
    5m x 2.2m = 11m²
    so 85.2 - 11 = 74.2m²

    2.  Area 2
    7m x 5.6m = 39.2m²

    3.  Area 3
    4m x 4.8m = 19.2m²

    4.  Total Area
    74.2 + 39.2 + 19.2 = 132.6m²
